Census Enrollment data, coming soon!

Every fall, IRDS takes an annual census of how many students are enrolled on campus. It is a handy, consistent measure of Stanford's enrollment that is particularly useful when trying to look at historical trends over time. This census becomes part of the official record that is reported to the federal government and external ranking agencies, as well as being reported in Stanford Facts, the Common Data Set, and a variety of other reference materials.  

Many of the original census records were in text files, hard to use and hard to compare across years, and were often not released to the campus community until several weeks after the census date. Over the past few years, efforts have been made to consolidate the information in a user-accessible database; more recently IRDS and AS (Administrative Systems) have worked together to make this information available in OBI. By the time of this fall's census (in October), SIRIS users will be able to access the latest numbers themselves at, within days after the census date. Data will be available by school, department, and study field, as well as on an ad hoc basis, for the past 14 years (starting in 2002-2003).

New open dashboard training sessions on 9/1 and 9/2

Are you interested in SIRIS but not sure how to get started? Sign up for one of our new SIRIS dashboard classes in STARS (IRDS-0100)! Right now there are two offerings: Thursday 9/1 and Friday 9/2, each from 9am-12pm. The training will give an overview of what SIRIS is, what sort of data it contains, and then dive deep into how to use and customize the SIRIS dashboards to find answers to common student reporting questions. There will be lots of hands-on practice so participants should come away with the confidence and skills to continue exploring on their own. We’ll do a quick demo of the ad hoc reporting environment but the major focus will be on the dashbaords at

No prior experience with OBI is required, however, participants will need to have been granted access to SIRIS and completed the online prerequiste at least 24 hours prior to the class session. Search for “IRDS-0100” or even just “SIRIS” in the STARS catalog to find the course and sign up. There is no cost.

We expect to have additional trainings for late September and October posted soon, so if the above dates don’t work for you, stay tuned for more opportunities. Next SAKE - Census Demo

The next Student Analytics Knowledge Exchange will take place on Monday, August 22 from 11am-12pm in Littlefield 243. This month we’ll be doing a demo of some of the new reports that will be available in the upcoming census data release (1H), as well as presenting some interesting sample queries. SIRIS (Student Integrated Reporting and Information System) is a tool designed to allow customized and in-depth reporting on students at Stanford. SIRIS is sponsored by the University Budget Office and Business Affairs, and is the product of a collaborative effort between Institutional Research and Decision Support  and Administrative Systems, in consultation with the Registrar’s Office and representatives from the Schools and VP areas.
